Tom Dae is not on the internet. Not really, at least. There’s no real bio for him or his self-titled-ish album, Tommy Dae. Numero Group reissued the album in 2020, which otherwise only existed on a few vinyl records floating around in the world. Dae was a part of two different teen bands, Tesionettes and the High Tensions, before he went out on his own and recorded this album. These are all the facts that I know.
Tommy Dae is comprised of six original tracks (heavily Nilsson inspired) and a handful of covers, like Aquarius and Leaving on a Jet Plane. Backed with the unmistakable sound of a Roland Drum Machine, the album is the sixties response to the lounge albums of the fifties (many of which I’ve featured in previous editions). His deep, heartthrob vocals are creamy and smooth over twang-y, simple melodies. It’s feel good music, but it’s also a little sexy.
Enjoy, mysteriously.
Tommy Dae - Tom Dae
Pair this album with:
Stanley Tucci’s martini. I can’t tell you why Stanley Tucci fits this mood, maybe it’s his recent series where he simply eats food in Italy. But, a martini fits the bill.
Classic shrimp scampi. A simple, easy meal, pairs well with a martini.
Wild blackberry ice cream. It’s finally starting to get warm, so a surprising, yet classic, treat is needed.
Thank you, thank you. See you thursday.
