Dinner Music: The weekly lineup

dinnermusic.substack.com

This week is about emerging into the world. We’re creeping into spring, we’re dining al fresco, we’re getting sunburned. There’s always something new about it, even though we find ourselves in this place every year. We start strong with a song from Pacific. There’s something about コーラル・リーフ (Coral Reef) that sounds like the best Nintendo 64 music. But, it’s not video game-y, it’s just fun and nostalgic as hell. We move through some disco, both American and Italo. We pit stop in Austin once again with Night Glitter, whose sound is dreamy, French and psychedelic at once. For the thousandth time, we revisit some tracks from Habibi Funk, which really is doing some of the best work in music right now. We end with Nat Vazer, an Australian musician, whose shoegaze, confessional-style music reminds you of something you can’t quite name.

Enjoy.

P.S. For paid subscribers, I’ll be sending a SXSW special edition on Wednesday with a playlist, some highlights of artists I’m excited about and a few events that seem great.

The playlist is here.

Pair with:

  • Volcanalia Ambarabà 2018. If you ever see Volcanalia wine somewhere, buy it. These Italian winemakers know what they’re doing.

  • These pants. Maybe weird to pair music with pants, but I wear these pants 100% of the time. We’re entering big pants, little shirt season and my philosophy is if you find good pants, you must share the news.

Thank you, thank you.

If you’re in Austin, I’m DJing as 1/2 of Horse Opera at Meanwhile on Friday. Come swing by and say hi.
