Dinner Music: The weekly lineup
seventies Lebanese sounds, classic country ballads, far-out folk nonsense
This week is about taking liberties. The music goes together only because it does (or because I say it does), not because it’s the same key or genre or region. How do we unite the contradictions we hear? Why do two things that are nothing alike go together? We begin with Molly Lewis, an ethereal, other-worldly, soft sound. And we move through seventies Lebanese sounds, classic country ballads, far-out folk nonsense and, finally, underrated disco. With the playlist, throw in some early-2000s deep indie feelings songs. Sometimes these things will be strange, even jarring, but perhaps that’s where it really gets going.
The playlist is here.

Pair with:
Nicky Snicky. A one-off Mexican red wine that will never be made again. Bichi is big in the natural Mexican wine scene, lots of their wines are different. Mostly good, sometimes not my thing. Always worth trying and considering.
You, Disappearing by Alexandra Kleeman. A short story about the end of the world, but not in the way you’d think. I’ve thought about this story every day since I read it. The apocalypse was quiet. It had a way about it, a certain charm. It could be called graceful. It was taking a long time.
This ceramic cup and saucer. I’m constantly looking at ceramics on SSENSE that I will not buy. This is undeniably cute and would be a great alternative wine vessel. Also, it’s on sale.
Thank you, thank you.
Also, if you’re in Austin or nearby Austin, I’m thinking of doing a meet-up sometime in March. Let me know if you’d like to come by. ✨
Also also, this newsletter is a labor of love. Considering becoming a paid subscriber and I’ll love you forever.
