This weekend we’re listening to soft, groovy sounds. The heat has settled over Texas, which puts a haze over everything — the landscape, the highway, the mind. To some, the heat can feel oppressive, unbearable. But, it can free the mind. It’s too hot to really think of anything else, so much simply melts away until it’s only you and the moment you’re in. Get a blanket, drive to a park and drink some wine outside.
The playlist is inspired by Bobby Charles, who was featured in an earlier edition of Dinner Music. He pioneered the Southern Louisiana-style music of sixties and the seventies, but he was constantly evolving what that meant. We have Walking in New Orleans by Fats Domino, a song Charles wrote, and it’s slow moving, sultry southern sound. Often times the songs that are included are a little less heard, but there are a few in here that may already be familiar to you, like Wild Horses or It’s a Shame. That’s intentional — the familiar can often take on different meaning when presented in a new context.
Enjoy.

The weekend, picnic friendly menu:
The drink: Bianco Frizzante. So, technically, this is prosecco. But, it’s nothing like your typical grocery store-mimosa prosecco. It’s made in the old style, with a tender hand and a little bit of skin contact. We love a spritzer, so throw some grapefruit in there.
The app: Crispy Yangnyeom Chickpeas With Caramelized Honey. Imagine eating Korean fried chicken, but it’s easier to make and a smidge more healthy. Throw these in a cute, vintage bowl and top with some chives.
The sides: Cantaloupe with Sugar Snap Peas and Ricotta Salata. Summer salads are my favorite types of salad. They’re refreshing, juicy and there’s always ricotta or feta involved. Always add some mint.
The main: Fried Tomato Sandwich With Lemon-Basil Sour Cream & Chile Oil. I love every single word in this recipe title. This sandwich is dressed up enough to eat for dinner, but chill enough to make for lunch. Add a kosher pickle spear on the side and you’re golden.
The afters: Cosmic Brownies. Yes, the cosmic brownies we all know and love, but homemade. Need I say more?
The vibe:
As always, thank you. 💕
