Khruangbin is a trio based out of Houston, TX. The genre is at once clear and utterly undefinable. If you search the internet for it, the first thing that comes up is “psychedelic rock surf rock funk instrumental rock dub rock.” They are everything, all at once. Kind of like Texas (but that’s a conversation for a different day).
Con Todo El Mundo is their second album, recorded in 2018. When Laura Lee was a child, her grandfather would ask her “Como me quieres?” (“how much do you love me?”) and he’d only accept one response: “con todo el mundo.” (“With all the world.”) The album is heavily influenced by under discovered funk and soul sounds of the Middle East, like a lot of the music released from by Habibi Funk. The tracks flow into one another and build a dreamy, psychedelic, warm atmosphere.
Even though you may know Khruangbin, enjoy it. I hope you’re able to find a new appreciation for what this Texas trio is doing, like I have.
Con Todo El Mundo - Khruangbin
Pair this album with:
Korean Braised Goat and Dumplings. Sticking with the Houston theme and pairing this album with a recipe from Houston chef Chris Shepard. Part braised goat, part stew, part dumplings.
Mint Julep. There’s something about a sweet, mint cocktail that cuts into Korean spice in the best way. This classic recipe is something to return to all summer.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Here’s a picture of an incredible Laura Lee outfit, for the road.
