It’s cold and rainy in Austin today, so for Dinner Music I’m going with something moody, dreamy and a little bit hazy.
Cornelia Murr lives in LA, but is originally from London, and the terroir of both places show up in the sounds of her debut album, Lake Tear of the Clouds. From the soft psych-folk to the aural, rainy mood evoked through lo-fi synth sounds, it plays like a fog slowly rolling over lush, green fields. Though the mood is reminiscent of Beach House, Murr’s voice comes through with a sound more akin to 1960s folk. In a handful of songs, like Billions and Man on My Mind, the percussion dips its toe into a pop vibe that breaks up the atmospheric sounds of the rest of the album — much in the same way that weather itself will ebb and flow. The California psych especially comes through in I Have a Woman Inside My Soul, with it’s smooth, slow rolling melody and long guitar riff toward the end.
This is definitely best suited for a nice, slow evening of pasta and red wine. Light a candle and enjoy.

I’m pairing this with:
Food: Quick Ragù With Ricotta and Lemon - If you want to take it extra slow, make it a traditional ragu and let that baby simmer for a few hours.
Wine: Cantina Giardino, Aglianico Re - A southern Italian, natural, medium-bodied red wine made with native varietal Aglianico. Think red fruits and earthy.
Tonight my partner and I are opening for DRAMA at Mohawk (our DJ duo is aptly named Horse Opera) and then headed out west to Marfa, TX for a couple of days.
See you next week and let me know what you pair with the music 💕
