This week we debut the very first Dinner Music guest post and interview with Justin Gage of Aquarium Drunkard, an “audio journal [started in 2005] focused on daily reviews, interviews, features, podcasts and sessions. For heads, by heads.” A native of Atlanta, GA, Justin Gage has called Los Angeles home for the past 24 years. In 2005 he founded Aquarium Drunkard, along with its weekly Sirius XM satellite radio show, and companion record label. Gage also works as a music supervisor and consultant and is a partner at Gold Diggers in East Hollywood, a hybrid music venue, bar, boutique hotel and recording studio.
As a long time follower of AD, this newsletter feels quite special, not only as the very first edition not compiled by me, but as a conversation between Dinner Music and a music publication that I looked to for music, and inspiration, early on, well before DM was a thought. Justin and I talk music, of course, but also dinner, AD, and the unexpected places we find music.
Music, for all of us, is a special kind of place that we get to inhabit. Here, through conversation, we get to peer into Justin’s world. Plus, he gives us five very excellent albums and a two-hour playlist “that is all vibe, mostly rhythmic & instrumental, aimed to carry you from cocktails onwards…”
Enjoy.
